The Meeting of the Parties to the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products
The Meeting of the Parties (MOP) is the governing body of the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products. The work of the MOP is governed by its Rules of Procedure and keeps under regular review the implementation of the Protocol and takes the decisions necessary to promote its effective implementation.
The MOP may establish working groups or expert groups with the mandate to elaborate guidelines and recommendations for the implementation of different protocol provisions.
To this end, the first session of the MOP established a working group on the tracking and tracing system following article 8, and a second one on assistance and cooperation following articles 12, 21, 23, 24, 28 and 29. The working groups presented their reports to the second session of the MOP in November 2020. The MOP2 extended the mandate of the working group on the tracking and tracing system to further develop the global information-sharing focal point and request the working group to report to the third session of the MOP in 2023.
Parties to the WHO FCTC that wish to ratify, accept, approve, formally confirm or accede to the Protocol are invited to contact the Treaty Section of the United Nations Secretariat in New York (facsimile: +1-212-963-3693).
