High-level segment – Justice and Prosecution: Strengthening Legal Action to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products

At the Fourth session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP4) to the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products, a high-level segment titledJustice and Prosecution: Strengthening Legal Action to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products” will take place.

This event will highlight how illicit tobacco trade undermines public health, fuels organized crime, drains government revenues, and will emphasize the crucial role of justice systems in tackling the issue.

Bringing together prosecutors, law enforcement agencies, intergovernmental organizations, civil society, and the media, the session will showcase successful prosecutions, expose illicit trade networks, and foster stronger cross-border cooperation. With keynote addresses from global leaders, insights from INTERPOL, prosecutorial perspectives from Latvia and Gabon, and contributions from investigative journalists, the segment will serve as a pivotal platform to galvanize political commitment, share best practices, and strengthen legal action against illicit tobacco trade.
