Country practices in the implementation of Article 17

(Economically sustainable alternatives to tobacco growing) of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control

Overview

Article 17 of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) states that Parties shall, in cooperation with each other and with competent international and regional intergovernmental organizations, promote, as appropriate, economically viable alternatives for tobacco workers, growers and, as the case may be, individual sellers.

At COP7, held in New Delhi, India, on 7-12 November 2016, the Convention Secretariat was called upon to continue to document experiences and lessons learnt concerning alternative livelihoods. This report has been prepared in line with this call by the COP.
