Paraguay WHO FCTC Needs Assessment
Overview
Paraguay signed its accession to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control on June 16, 2003, and ratified it on September 26, 2006. At the request of the Paraguayan Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare (MSP), the Secretariat of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (Convention Secretariat) agreed to conduct a joint needs assessment exercise for the implementation of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) in the country. To this end, the MSP, together with an international team led by the WHO FCTC Secretariat, carried out a mission in Asunción from May 6 to 10, 2019. The international team for this mission consisted of representatives from the WHO FCTC Secretariat, the regional and national office in Paraguay of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), and a representative from the international non-governmental organization The Union Against Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases (The Union).
