Sao Tome and Principe WHO FCTC Needs Assessment
Overview
São Tomé and Príncipe ratified the WHO FCTC on 12 April 2006. It entered into force on 11 July 2006. To ensure that São Tomé and Príncipe fully meets its obligations, a needs assessment exercise for the implementation of the WHO FCTC was jointly conducted by the Government of São Tomé and Príncipe and the Secretariat of the WHO FCTC from 24 to 27 May 2021. This exercise included an initial analysis of the current situation, challenges, and potential needs arising from the most recent report on the implementation of the WHO FCTC and other sources of information. An international team led by the Convention Secretariat and also including representatives from the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa (WHO AFRO), the WHO Country Office and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) carried out the exercise from 20 to 22 July 2021. The assessment involved the relevant Ministries and agencies in Sao Tome and Principe.
