Senegal WHO FCTC Needs Assessment
Overview
Senegal ratified the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) on 27 January 2005 and was among the first 40 countries to do so. The WHO FCTC entered into force in Senegal on 27 February 2005. To ensure Senegal fully meets its obligations, a needs assessment for the implementation of the WHO FCTC was conducted jointly by the Government of Senegal and the Secretariat of the WHO FCTC from 8 to 12 July 2019. This assessment included an initial analysis of the current situation, challenges, and potential needs arising from the most recent WHO FCTC implementation report and other sources of information. An international team led by the Convention Secretariat and also including representatives from the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa (WHO AFRO), the WHO Country Office and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) carried out the mission to Senegal from 8 to 12 July 2019. The assessment involved the relevant ministries and agencies in Senegal.
