Organized by the Convention Secretariat through our FCTC 2030 programme of support and delivered in partnership with the WHO FCTC Knowledge Hub on Tobacco Taxation, based at the University of Cape Town’s School of Economics. The workshop took place over three weeks. The first week was the Introductory Workshop on Tobacco Taxation (14-18 March 2022), which covered various economic concepts and theories of tobacco taxation and saw participation by governments, NGOs and academia. In the second and third week, selected country teams received dedicated support to develop country-specific tax models to predict likely consequences on consumption and revenue from a change in the structure or level of excise tax.
